Perhaps building up for a video game and delaying for six months is the right move to surge up the sales charts. That's what happened to Ubisoft's latest release, Watch Dogs.
From VG247:
According to the UbiBlog, Watch Dogs has managed to outsell any other Ubisoft title in day one sales. Curiously, Ubisoft didn’t have any Watch Dogs sales numbers to share.
Obviously it would be nice to see some physical numbers, but there's no question that Ubisoft is walking away happy after the former launch title for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One saw a lengthy delay and had reported multiple problems around launch day as well as mixed reviews.
Considering the new IP has beaten early sales of franchises such as Assassin's Creed and Rayman is especially worth noting. There's no question that Ubisoft will be working this into a franchise itself if the numbers keep up.
This is also a good lesson for publishers that may be struggling seeing their games sell. Despite all the issues surrounding Watch Dogs, what made it sell was a strong marketing campaign behind it. Everybody knew what this game or at least heard of the name and saws glimpses of it well before the newest consoles were even out on the market.
