The Xbox One won't be the only console focused on content outside of video games.
For the second time, Sony files a trademark for "PlayStation TV" back in late June. IGN retrieved the status of the trademark. Computer and Video Games reports that a trademark was created in the same year the PlayStation 3 was launched, but the trademark was allowed to expire last September because nothing became of it.
Andrew House, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, is singing a different tune this time around. Last Wednesday, CVG had an interview with him and he described the market on PlayStation Network that's filled with over 110 million users.
"It's a testament to how far we've come with PlayStation 3 in building a really substantial community of networked gamers, who are also interested in other forms of entertainment.
"Whereas I think you could have slightly accused Sony of a bit of forced synergy, if we'd been trying to enact this collaboration several years ago, the fact is now, with 110 million PlayStation Network accounts worldwide, that's a substantial business opportunity for Sony Pictures to reach a different audience."
Unique content could be on the network, similar to other subscription-based programming like Netflix's Orange is the New Black or new season of Arrested Development.
We'll see if Sony actually capitalizes this time around on the PlayStation 4 and Vita, or if they just let it fall by the wayside like their new camera will probably do.
