Fieldrunners 2 Being Ported Over to PlayStation Vita

Fieldrunners app update 1.2

Another port of a mobile phone classic will be headed over to Sony's handheld system this summer.

It's been announced that Fieldrunners 2, which originally was on the iOS and ported over to Steam and Android systems earlier this year, will be released on the PlayStation Vita. Alec Shobin, marketing and strategy for Subatomic Studios that's behind the game, posted on the PlayStation Blog that the success of the previous game's port over to the PSP was enough reason to give the Vita a port of the latest edition.

In Fieldrunners 2, our aim was to make everything bigger and better, while still respecting our fans as tower defense connoisseurs. We started by building a new game engine, which allows each and every enemy to carve their own unique path through the battlefield. Drop a tower in front of them? Their relentless waves wrap right around it. Use bridges and tunnels to create a killer choke point? Enemies get caught up in a huge traffic jam.

Fieldrunners 2 for PS Vita is now in the final stages of development. Packing a new engine, crazy weapons and all new precision attacks, tower defense fans will be in for a real treat! We’ll be back soon to give you more info about all the cool features we’ve added, as well as a launch date. Get ready to… DEFEND THE WORLD!

In better news, its a genre that needs a little bit more life and options on the Vita. The only game I'd recommend is Plants vs. Zombies currently in the PS Store. Problem is most people that own an Apple or Android device is likely burnt out on all the options available to them.

The last paragraph of the blog post adds hope that something will be different in this game besides just adding trophy achievements. For those that will get the port just for trophies...more power to them.

Visuals on the game look stunning in the photos that were released in the blog, and it will undoubtedly look fantastic on the Vita's bigger screen compared to other mobile devices.
