PlayStation News: Battlefield 4 releases large patch, Uncharted trilogy on PS4?

Here's the latest news I wrote over at Gamer Headlines for Wednesday, July 9th, 2014.

Battlefield 4 releases patch for PlayStation 3 and 4, adds modes and game fixes

A large amount of bugs and glitches were fixed along with DICE even adding a new game mode to both PlayStation editions of Battlefield 4, a game that apparently will never be completely fixed.

It's been eight months since the game has been released and many fans and gamers are just looking ahead to the next installment, Battlefield: Hardline -- assuming that isn't filled with bugs and glitches that make the game damn near unplayable.

I truly admire DICE's attempt to fix a disaster, but EA needs to do some quality control instead of releasing a buggy game and simply apologizing for it later. By no means does game need to be 100% out of the box, but game-breaking glitches are simply not acceptable.

Sony president believes Uncharted 'good candidate' to remake on PlayStation 4

We all saw a ton of Sony HD remasters on the PS3 -- God of War, Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, etc. Let's hope that trend doesn't continue with 1080P and 60FPS updates on the PS4. There's no need for those games to be re-released on the PS4 and there's no reason to upgrade the entire PS3 catalog to the "super high-definition" we get in PS4 games.

However, with the PS4 opening up its life with a much bigger install base than its predecessor, it would be wise for Sony to update its biggest hits and re-release them. They're doing it with The Last of Us, and they should do it with Uncharted. Releasing a trilogy package would be a great deal for those that missed out on it in the last generation.

Battlefield 4 will receive another 'stability' patch in coming weeks

DICE announces they will be updating Battlefield 4 on PlayStation 4 and all other platforms with a patch due at the end of this month or at the beginning of next month.

From the BF4 Control Room:
We are aiming to get a new update live for all platforms at the end of January/beginning of February (timing might change.) This update will include a number of stability improvements, tweaks, and fixes. We will get back to you with the change notes as the update goes live.
The developer is also looking for feedback to update gameplay balancing, and they've announced that updates to "DMR performance, anti-air, and more" are coming soon.

A recent post on the Battlefield Blog shows vehichle tweaks that are in the works, but that doesn't mean any of those fixes will be included in this upcoming patch.

EA will release Battlefield 4 patch for PlayStation 4 soon

Battle Field 4 Beta - Test Shots

New consoles always present an array of issues, such as a minimal amount of faulty hardware and some software incompatibility and glitches. EA's franchise first-person shooter, Battlefield 4, finds its fair share of problems and the company will have a fix soon.

From Game Informer:
“We are aware of the frequent crashes in Battlefield 4 on PlayStation 4,” an official post on the Battlefield blog reads. “We are hard at work identifying these issues and are hoping to get a game update out early next week. Stay tuned for more details as we can confirm them, and thanks for your patience!”
We reached out to EA to see if there was any more information available on the PlayStation 4 patch. "DICE is working on it," we were told by an EA representative.
GI reported that there has been "crashes" and they've struggled "to get into the 64-player conquest mode."

EA has had to patch their shooter already, releasing an update for PC owners on November 14th. GI says that the company is working on an update for Xbox 360, but assume they mean Xbox One as both the 360 and PS3 editions have been updated to address multiple online issues.

Most current problems gamers are running into are crashing bugs, something that's completely unacceptable but seen multiple times early in EA's releases.

Battlefield 3 Free for PlayStation Plus Subscribers in Europe this July

Battlefield 3

The list of free games for July have been revealed for PlayStation Plus owners in Europe, and its' highlighted by Battlefield 3 from DICE and Electronic Arts.

It's a little bit different when it comes to free releases in Europe. Their rotation is per month while the releases in North America are staggered through the month, giving gamers an early heads up two weeks in advance to not purchase those games. BF3 is included with the following set to be launched on July 3rd:
  • PayDay: The Heist
  • Saints Row: The Third
  • Ninja Gaiden Sigma Plus (Vita)
  • Unit 13 (Vita)
Yes, outside of BF3, those games have been free in America as there is some crossover, but not every game has been the same with a different free date. For example, Europeans were able to get Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning and Rayman Origins (Vita) for free.

All that can be taken in consideration for America is that the games could see an eventual release on this side. Or possibly never.

The chances of seeing this game free are probably slim. First-person shooters are the highest-selling franchise in the states for years now and that trend won't falter until the Call of Duty franchise slows down.
