The YouTube app on PlayStation 3 receives an upgrade, giving users the ability to stream video with easy access from their mobile device to any television.
Similar to most new Smart TVs, almost any mobile device can be connected given that both are on the same WiFi connection. With the PS3, they've eliminated the need for passwords or PIN numbers, according to the press release via Engadget.
The updated YouTube app for Playstation 3 now has the send to TV feature that automatically pairs your phone or tablet with your PS3 on the same Wi-Fi network. Open YouTube on your PS3, click the TV icon on your YouTube app for Android or iPhone, and the video starts playing instantly on your big screen.
Upon a brief review, the feature works seamlessly and is a welcome addition for those that use PlayStation 3 for "smart TV features." It doesn't bring anything new to the table besides dropping the need for a PIN number, so expect the same features like on other smart TVs or devices like Roku and Apple TV.
Having tested this feature on my smart TV, one process that didn't work was being able to stream live video. I haven't tested that on the PS3 version, but I'll give it a shot with a random soccer match or better yet, when the Major League Lacrosse schedule resumes on YouTube.
