New Spelunky world record score exceeds $3 million

Somebody played seven hours of one run in Spelunky and set a new world record score.

From Destructoid:

It's a run that will, at least for the foreseeable future, remain at the top of the leaderboards.Bananasaurus Rex, known as being the first person to complete a solo eggplant run, has set the new world record score: $3,105,850.

That's absolutely insane, but kudos to Bananasaurus Rex, both to the ability to play the game for that long and that nickname. Here's the video of the entire 7+ hour run:

I recently purchased Spelunky in Sony's blowout sale to open up the new year. It's an absolute blast to pick-up and play, especially on the Vita, but I'm still barely able to get a run to last over 15 minutes. Just getting $1 million as a high score would be a huge triumph.

Playstation Plus offers discount on upcoming indie releases

I've killed this character in #spelunky at least 500 times.

Beginning this Tuesday, four indie games over the course of four weeks will receive a discount during their launch week exclusively for PlayStation Plus subscribers.

All four indie games will be discounted by 20 percent and are cross buy. The games included are Divekick, Spelunky, Kickbeat, and Dragon Fantasy: Book II.
PS Plus members will receive a 20% discount on each game during its launch week and all four games are Cross-Buy approved, meaning you can play them on Vita and/or PS3.
Below is the lineup of games for the PS Vita Summer Select:
Divekick - $9.99 $7.99 (8/20 through 8/26)
Spelunky - $14.99 $11.99 (8/27 through 9/22)
Kickbeat - $9.99 $7.99 (9/3 through 9/9)
Dragon Fantasy: Book II - $14.99 $11.99 (9/10 through 9/16)
Spelunky has been a critically-acclaimed Xbox exclusive that finally gets a release on PSN, and is perhaps the most exciting release on this list. Those that played the first part of Dragon Fantasy will be able to continue their adventure in mid-September.
