No Price Cut Planned for PlayStation 3
Even with Sony releasing their new console later this year, don't expect a price cut for the PlayStation 3 anytime soon.
"There's no plans as yet," [Sony executive Fergal Gara told GamesIndustry International]. "The PlayStation 3 is a system where it hasn't been particularly easy to get the costs down.
"We continue to look at opportunities, there may or may not be any more, I genuinely can't answer to that," he added.
It's not a big surprise. Considering that Sony is bleeding money from their console industry, it's been a surprise to see the console being bundled at about half of its launch price for this long. $300 for a game, various lengths of free trials for PlayStation Plus, and up to 500 gigabytes of storage is simply not a bad price.
For those that are patient, it's also easy to find deals like last week when the 500GB Assassin's Creed III bundle was down to $220 for a limited time.
If their is a console price cut, it would likely be sometime next holiday season and I would imagine the price cut to be about half of the PlayStation 4 retail value.
