The game based on the classic board game, developed by VooFoo Studios and published by Ripstone Games, will hit Sony's new console later this month, with an exact date yet to be known.
Joystiq gives more information on the upcoming game that follows the footsteps of the previous edition released on the PlayStation 3 and Vita nearly two years ago.
If gaming platforms are squares on a chess board, VooFoo Studios' Pure Chess almost has the PS4 surrounded. Its debut on the PS3 and Vita in May 2012 was followed by ports to the 3DS, Wii U, iPhone and Android, leaving a curious gap on Xbox platforms. That doesn't matter, though - the PS4 is about to be conquered in April, resulting in a checkmate of all of Sony's gaming platforms. Strategy enthusiasts can set up a game for $7.99, or go for the Complete Edition for $14.99 to get extra locations and set themes.VG247 reports that the PS4 edition "has improved visuals when compared to the PS3 release, apparently, and is described as 'the definitive edition.'"
Some board games transferred over into the video game world make sense, like Monopoly. There's a lot of pieces involved, and it's quite fun for those that can't find anyone else to play with them.
But chess? This one could be a hard sell even for eight bucks, especially when the game is free on Android.
