Unlike Sony's previous console, there will be enough PlayStation 4 units for everybody throughout the holiday season.
Sony Computer Entertainment CEO, Andrew House, told Game Informer (via Game Kicker) that production is "good" on the next-generation console and that with their goal of moving five million units, there will be enough to meet demand.
“[This is] the first platform launch that I’ve ever been involved with where we’ve had such a good production ramp up and a good sense of supply,” he told Game Informer. ”I think that we will be in good supply in the countries that we’ve launched in.
“I think through the holiday season that we’ll be in good supply. The sales target that I announced for the company is five million units sold by the end of our fiscal year. March 31, 2014.”That's great news to hear compared to the PlayStation 3 launch. Sony ran into a shortage well under the one million mark they hit for PS4s in the first 24 hours.
