Rockstar's PlayStation 3-exclusive 'Agent' receives new trademarks

Rockstar Games ASCII

Little has been known for years about Rockstar North's Agent, which was a PlayStation 3 exclusive first revealed back in 2007. It turns out that the game could still be in the works after their parent company registered trademarks.

Spencer of Siliconera reports that Take-Two Interactive has filed two trademarks for the Agent name.

Both trademarks are for use with video games, computer games, online video games, and various printed materials such as manuals and guide books.

What exactly is Agent? It looks to be a stealth game that takes place during the Cold War in the 1970s. Nice location as there aren't really any games on the market taking place in this era.

So why has this franchise been delayed this much? It's unknown, likely that either Rockstar North ran into financial troubles, had to work on other projects, or may have ran into issues with Sony on keeping it an exclusive game. Two years after the game was outlined at the 2009 E3, Sony Computer Entertainment of America CEO, Jack Tretton, could no longer confirm that the game was exclusive.

Even though it's clear that what's known about the mysterious franchise is being hidden, one could logically assume that it will be heading to at least the PlayStation 4 if a title does indeed come out. I'd be surprised if it stayed a sequel with how long the game could have potentially been in development.
